Gagetown NB Senior Cohousing

I am starting a new Senior Cohousing Group in the Village of Gagetown, New Brunswick. The first formal meeting has been set for 7.30 p.m. in the Anglican Church Hall, Monday 4th March 2013. We are fortunate in already having an available and inexpensive serviced site of several acres in the village core, so the project is off to a good start. I intend to use Charles Durrett’s Senior Cohousing Handbook as our basic approach, and find Chapin’s Pocket Neighborhoods as good a guide to physical development style as one could want. E-mail me, Tony Ratliffe, at ratliffe@nbnet.nb.ca if you want more details.

I am 65 in December. I am trying to find affordable housing with a group of like-minded folks. I would appreciate to learn more about your cohousing.
I travelled to New Brunswick a few years ago and really liked how well you kept the roads and how easy it was to get around your province. I really loved the national park and Shediac as well as Fredrickton. A while back I went across Canada (when I was 49) and camped and so had a chance to go around New Brunswick. I like to swim outdoors in the summer. I like to garden. I do have a cat.
    Thank you. Lynda Boyd

Hi ,we to are very interested in the co-housing. Has this taken off yet in Fredericton? The last article I read was from 2013.We are 2015 now, what is the newest up date close to N.S. We are 65 and 70 yrs and apartment living is killing us .We would really like to be with “like minded SENIORS” now! Any up date would be helpful! Thank you Wendy Briand

I am wondering how this project is progressing. There don’t seem to be any recent posts!

We are in the province next-door to NB, and are in the early stages ( just over a year) of building a multigenerational cohousing community here in the Windsor ( the beautiful Annapolis Valley) area. We are always looking for more members to help us out and to contribute their knowledge, and live in our community. If you’d like to have a look at what we are learning and planning go to Fb: Cohousing in NS. We are currently working on our Mission and Vision statements as the time is close at hand to think about looking for land or a building to use. We have spent the year reading and digesting all that we can to ensure a successful community. The majority of us are 55-72, and we look forward to a smaller home in the near future surrounded by like minded indiviuals. Hoping to hear from you,
    Ann Knowles

Ann, there will be attendees at the Cohousing Conference in Moncton next month. Perhaps you can connect.

Hello. I am part of a small rural group with the intent to create senior co-housing in rural New Brunswick. Can you suggest people to talk to with expertise in this area? We will be working on a small footprint, using green lifestyle ideals. As we are just forming now would be a good time for expert opinions.
    Thanks.

I am a senior looking to cohouse. I lost one home already due to financial constraints. Anyone know of cohousing for a reasonable cost and labour.

Good evening. I am interested in helping the Barrie community with affordable housing for mature adults. I currently work at a retirement home and I have seen folks have to leave because they have run out of money. 🙁 Happily these individuals have found coe housing options, but why are not easy to find Is this discussion still open?
